19A – Idea Napkin No. 2
1) My name is Natasha Colon and I am the type of person who enjoys giving back. Throughout both high school and college I would go out of my way to find volunteering opportunities because I feel that it is important to give back to the community you live in. I was born in Puerto Rico and my entire family lives there. My family has been affected by many natural disasters while living there and I always find ways to help them in every way possible. The USA Relief organization will play an important role in my life becuase it combines my love for volunteering and finding ways to give back to people who are affected by natural disasters.
2) The USA Relief organization will have college students collecting funding and donations to be sent to areas within the United States that have been affected by natural disasters. This organization will focus on a smaller scale of aid rather than a global scale so that funding will be higher to be of more help.
3) This organization will be started on the UF campus and will be run by college students on campus. The students who will join will have the desire to volunteer and that are interested in helping others even if they do not have the funding themselves. Since the organization is focused on aiding only in the United States the students that have been personally affected by natural disasters or know of people who have been will be more inclined to join becuase they will understand the need that may come from the damages.
4) People will find this organization worth the money becuase it is focusing on natural disasters within the United States. This allows there to be more donations and funding for affected areas rather than having less money to donate on a global level. This will also influence more people to donate becuase it is more likely that they have been or know someone who has personally affected by a natural disaster within the USA, so they will feel more inclined to help out.
5) This organization is different because it is focused on aiding those affected within the United States. This allows there to be larger donations on a smaller scale. The way USA Relief would market itself is by focusing on the fact that it is a student rand organization that seek out the donations and funding themselves and focus on having local businesses to donate to the cause. This allows them to have their name recognized for helping out affected areas while helping the organization gather needed items.
Feedback Memo:
The only feedback I received on the first idea napkin was that I need to differentiate my organization more, so it stands out from other college organizations. There are many on-campus organizations that focus on giving back in different aspects, so it was suggested that I focus on marketing USA Relief as a college student-funded organization. Along with that I also stated that I will market that our organization will focus on having local organizations donate to the cause. This allows smaller businesses to be recognized for giving back while helping those in need.

Hey Natasha, I think your response to the feedback is a good step forward. I am partial to cooperation with local business owners. I also feel like what you could benefit from most now is explicit examples that can give future volunteers and/or investors what USA Relief will actually work to do. This will be really hard, I imagine, since that could feel like limiting your potential, but it would be quite helpful. Even giving specific detail to your backstory, like who you actually volunteered with in college and what made you happy, would give us something to connect with.
ReplyDeleteHi Natasha,
ReplyDeleteI found this idea napkin much more detailed than your first one. However, I think it could still use some more detail. As Flavor4hire said your post would definitely benefit from some specific examples of what your organization will do. By creating and presenting a well thought out plan of action to potential volunteers I believe you would find it much easier to successfully bring them aboard. Your idea does sound great and I think that your focus on local businesses is a smart one.
