12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1
The Segment:
The segment I have chosen is those who like to volunteer. This organization is run by college students who will be volunteering their time to give back, so I have to make it appealing to them to get their help.
Interview #1:
I interviewed one of my sorority sisters because we are a part of a volunteering based sorority. She has been volunteering a grand majority of her life and looks forward to possibly working with the Peach Corps in the future. Being a part of some organization's campus she has noticed the lack of organization and consistency in structure, which she has found frustrating because she wants to feel like she is making an impact. She said she would be interested in being a part of this organization because she feels like having a more specific area to aid that the impact will be greater rather than spreading the donations too thin. She said this will be a large need if the organization has the proper funding and leadership, but if not then she would rather not be a part of another club that isn't meeting her needs. If they were to Google a solution she would look up, "Clubs in Gainesville that give back".
Interview #2:
I interviewed someone that use to volunteer often in high school but has had family in the United States affected by natural disasters. He feels that there can be more done for people that are affected by natural disasters and at a quicker rate. He stated that he has felt 'helpless' at times because he wants to help, but he does not how. He said that this organization is one that he would be interested in joining. He would not join immediately, but if he saw that it was successful then he would. It is not an immediate need that he wants to be fulfilled because he is busy with school, but is one he is worth meeting if he sees the organization being successful. If he were to Google a solution he would look up, "How to help those affected by the natural disaster".
Interview #3:
I interviewed a nursing major because I know a lot of them are interested in helping others. She said that she always looks for ways to help out. If it means giving up her own time or donating to a cause. She is passionate about Dance Marathon on campus and has been fundraising since her freshman year because she finds this organization to be one of the most significant that she is a part of. She said that she would join this organization because she has seen the news about a natural disaster that has affected places like Puerto Rico and how they have not been getting significant attention, so she has a desire to help out in every way possible. She also stated that many of her family members are interested in donating to important causes so she would be able to look for sponsorships. If they were to Google a solution she would look up, "Ways to collect donations for natural disasters".
Summary:
Through my interviews, I found out that there are many students that are interested in being a part of an organization that gives back, but I need to make sure that there is a stable business plan laid out. Along with a plan there should be some sort of sponsorship, so it shows people that we are actively seeking assistance and we are not waiting for a natural disaster to happen to start taking action.

Hi Natasha,
ReplyDeleteI think you picked a great segment for your organization. Those already volunteer I'm sure would be willing to donate and volunteer for your organization. However you have to keep in mind these are primarily your friends that you are interviewing. People you might not know that volunteer often already have a several competing organization vying for their time and you would have to join that fight for volunteers. As a small and new organization it would be difficult to bring volunteers away from other organizations to yours. I think your best chance would be to bring in people who want to volunteer but have not yet made it a habit to volunteer.
