6A – Identifying Opportunities in Economic & Regulatory Trends
ECONOMIC: Electric dream: Britain to ban new petrol and hybrid cars from 2035
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-climate-change-accord/electric-dream-britain-to-ban-new-petrol-and-hybrid-cars-from-2035-idUSKBN1ZX2RY
I found this article on Reuter.com. The British government has announced that beginning in the year 2035 they will begin banning the sale of new petrol, diesel, and hybrid cars. This leads me to believe that this change will lead to the car industry striving to create more eco-friendly cars in order to keep sales because if this becomes a trend many countries will soon follow with similar bans. The customer of this opportunity will be the everyday car customer because cars will be created to be more efficient. This can also be seen as an opportunity for public transportation companies because this ban might lead people to turn to public transportation rather than cars. I think this decision might be both easy and difficult to exploit because this will lead to a cleaner environment but might lead to the rise of car prices making it difficult for people to own their own.
Opportunity: I see this as an opportunity because I have seen how global warming has affected the environment, so if major countries begin to create bans like this I wonder what other countries will soon follow.

- Economic: What Happened When a State Made Food Stamps Harder to Get
I found this article on the New York Times website. West Virginia has made the requirements for
food stamps tougher, which has made life for poor people more difficult and has not helped with the
employment rate. This leads me to believe that there is an opportunity for the government of West
Virginia to reconsider their requirement adjustments because they see that the change they did has not
caused positive results. The customers in this situation are the poorer people who have lost their food
stamps to this change. I feel that this is a difficult opportunity to exploit because with government aid like
food stamps it takes a while to reshape the law to make the requirements less tough.

Opportunity: I see this as an opportunity because even though I have not personally dealt with this situation I know now that I need to pay more attention to the laws being passed in the state of Florida. This can allow me to be well informed when it comes to voting in elections.
- Regulatory: Top Policy Trends 2020: Artificial Intelligence
I found this article on the PWC United States website. Artificial Intelligence has grown enormously throughout the years and is not stopping yet. Nations and businesses are making huge investments to increase its AI infrastructure and talent. This has led for policymakers to begin addressing some of the negative impacts that come along with the growth of AI and the growth of regulation. The customers of this opportunity would be everyday individuals and companies that are interested in utilizing AI at both a commercial and personal level. This is a difficult opportunity to exploit because the attempt of policymakers wanting to regulate this new technology will possibly slow down the access to this new technology.
Opportunity: I see this as an opportunity because technology like AI can be beneficial to our society in many different aspects. It is so complex that it has never-ending possibilities. - Regulatory: Partial e-cigarette ‘flavor ban’ goes into effect today. Here’s what happens next
I found this article on the CNN health website. Starting February 6, 2020, a number of flavored vaping products have been taken off the US market. This leads me to believe that an opportunity may exist in the positive effects of health among those who only enjoyed vaping because of the fruity flavors. The customers in this are those who use to shop for vape products only because of the flavor. This opportunity was difficult to exploit because this policy went through a lot of changes before it was signed and it will continue to receive ridicule.
Opportunity: I see this as an opportunity because this new policy can potentially lead to a decrease in tobacco users throughout the United States.
